Ny Sreyroth opens her first solo show, Back to Life - The Healing Power of Art, turning deeply personal experience into visual work that speaks directly to resilience and recovery. A survivor of gender-based violence herself, the 34-year-old Phnom Penh-based artist came to painting without formal training - she started drawing during the isolation and hardship of the COVID-19 pandemic, using it as a way to process what she was feeling. A violent attack she survived abroad in 2022 pushed her into withdrawal for months; returning to painting became the turning point that let her rebuild her voice and reclaim a sense of safety. Now an emerging figure in Cambodia’s contemporary art scene, Sreyroth uses her work and public performances to challenge stigma around gender-based violence and open space for women to speak and be heard.
