Broken Hearts Club: High Fidelity (2000)
About this event
Rob Gordon owns a struggling Chicago record store and copes with his latest breakup the way he copes with everything - by making a top-five list, this time of his most heartbreaking splits, and narrating his entire romantic history straight to camera. John Cusack stars in High Fidelity, Stephen Frears' adaptation of Nick Hornby's novel, with a soundtrack doing almost as much storytelling as the script, and Jack Black, as Rob's obnoxious, brilliant record-store colleague, threatening to walk off with the whole film. It's a comedy that's aged into something more complicated than it seemed at the time - Rob is charming and also, pretty clearly, kind of insufferable, and the film is smarter about that than it initially gets credit for. Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times said he could walk out of the theater and meet the same people on the street, while The New York Times' Stephen Holden praised the half dozen incisive performances that spark the film. Broken Hearts Club: High Fidelity (2000) Wednesday, October 14th | 8:00 PM | TicTic, Phnom Penh Free Entry & Popcorn - Arrive early for sofa, bed, or beanbag seating.
