About this event

Mia, an aspiring actress cycling through failed auditions, and Sebastian, a jazz purist dreaming of opening his own club, fall for each other across present-day Los Angeles - told through Old Hollywood-style song and dance numbers that director Damien Chazelle stages with real technical bravado, including a single-take dance sequence shot on a closed freeway at magic hour. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling star in La La Land, which made Chazelle the youngest Best Director Oscar winner in Academy history at 32, off the back of Whiplash two years earlier. It's a film fully aware of its own artifice, using that awareness as part of the heartbreak - the fantasy of the musical set directly against two people whose ambitions may simply not fit together. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone said it sweeps you away on waves of humor, heartbreak and ravishing romance, while TIME's Stephanie Zacharek called it an ode to the idea of the might-have-been romance, in all its piercing sweetness. Broken Hearts Club: La La Land (2016) Wednesday, October 28th | 8:00 PM | TicTic, Phnom Penh Free Entry & Popcorn - Arrive early for sofa, bed, or beanbag seating.
