A Pakistani-American comedian's blossoming romance runs headfirst into cultural expectations, family pressure and an unexpected medical crisis in The Big Sick, based on the real-life relationship between writers Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon. Directed by Michael Showalter, the film earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for its honest, sharply funny take on relationships, identity and cross-cultural family dynamics - warm, unexpectedly moving, and one of the most beloved romantic comedies of recent years. Rolling Stone called it funny, heartfelt and wonderfully human, while Empire named it one of the best romantic comedies in years.
