About this event
Before Lim Kah Wai's road movie Your Lovely Smile could even be released, the mini-theaters it was built around began collapsing one after another. This Magic Moment (2023) captures that unraveling in real time: Shuri Theater owner Kinjo Masanori's sudden death and the venue's closure in April 2022, Satsugeki's civil rehabilitation filing in May, Toyooka Theater's temporary closure in August, a fire that destroyed Kokura Showakan on August 10th, and Osaka's Theatre Umeda shutting its doors that September. Screening followed by a Q&A with director Lim Kah Wai. Japanese with English subtitles | $3 | 90 minutes
