About this event

A father and his young son travel deep into the Moroccan desert searching for his missing daughter, last seen somewhere in the illegal rave scene sprawled across the Atlas Mountains. What starts as a straightforward search-and-rescue turns into something closer to a fever dream in Sirât, as the pair fall in with a ragtag convoy of ravers pushing their trucks further into terrain that gets more punishing, and more unforgiving, with every mile. Oliver Laxe shot to Cannes' main competition for the first time with this one and walked away sharing the Jury Prize, an unusually mainstream honor for a film this uncompromising - it plays like Mad Max crossed with a Herzog fever dream, techno-scored, sun-scorched, and genuinely dangerous-feeling in a way few festival films manage. IndieWire called it sui generis, evading any classification, while Variety described it as extraordinarily strange and nerve-wracking. Cult Movie Mondays: Sirât (2025, Spain) Monday, September 7th | 8:00 PM | TicTic, Phnom Penh Free Entry & Popcorn - Arrive early for sofa, bed, or beanbag seating.
