About this event

A struggling jazz musician named Y and his dancer wife Yasmin resolve to say "yes" to everything in the aftermath of October 7th, selling their art and themselves to Israel's social and political elite - a decision that soon lands Y with an assignment of enormous weight: composing a new national anthem, sending him spiralling through parties, propaganda and moral compromise. That's the premise of Yes, Nadav Lapid's maximalist satire, one of the most talked-about and divisive films at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it premiered in Directors' Fortnight and became the most argued-over title on the Croisette, with financiers and crew reportedly wary of attaching themselves. Lapid, previously a Cannes Jury Prize winner for Ahed's Knee and Berlinale Golden Bear winner for Synonyms, delivers a loud, kinetic and unapologetically confrontational piece of political filmmaking, one critics have called among the defining works of post-October 7th cinema. Rotten Tomatoes' Critics Consensus called it thought-provoking with comedic flair, while IONCINEMA described it as a rare example of modern art speaking truth to power.
