About this event

Cambodia proved rock 'n' roll's universality decades before anyone thought to look - in the 1960s and '70s, young musicians there picked up electric guitars, studied Mick Jagger's stage moves, and blended Eastern melodies with Western grooves in ways that still sound fresh today. Then, in 1975, the Khmer Rouge arrived and wiped it out entirely, along with nearly every trace of modern Cambodian society, over a four-year reign that killed 1.7 million people. What remained of pre-Khmer Rouge pop survived only in scattered fragments, its history incomplete until American filmmaker John Pirozzi spent a decade reconstructing it for Don't Think I've Forgotten: Cambodia's Lost Rock and Roll (2014, 105 min). Free entrance. English subs.
