Just before Bob Dylan changes everything, a struggling folk musician tries to find his footing in Greenwich Village's early-1960s music scene - that's the setup for Inside Llewyn Davis, Joel and Ethan Coen's Cannes Grand Prix-winning drama loosely inspired by the life of folk singer Dave Van Ronk. Oscar Isaac delivers a breakthrough performance alongside Carey Mulligan, John Goodman and Justin Timberlake in a film that blends melancholy, humour and standout musical performances, widely regarded as one of the Coens' most emotionally resonant works. Mark Kermode called it a quietly brilliant masterpiece, while The Atlantic named it one of the Coens' greatest achievements.
