About this event

Two Irish hitmen are stuck waiting out a job gone wrong in the impossibly pretty medieval city of Bruges, killing time while their volatile boss decides what happens to them next in In Bruges, Martin McDonagh's directing debut, which starts out as an odd-couple comedy and ends up somewhere much darker. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson star alongside Ralph Fiennes in a film where McDonagh's roots in theatre show clearly in the dialogue - vicious, filthy, and somehow tender in the same sentence, which became his signature from here on. The comedy curdles into something closer to a morality play by the end, guilt and consequence catching up with people who thought they'd left both behind. Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times called it an endlessly surprising, very dark, human comedy, while Damon Wise of Empire described it as unruly, foul-mouthed and possessing a weird sense of humour. Four Weeks of Neo-Noir: In Bruges Thursday, September 24th | 8:00 PM | TicTic Free Entry & Popcorn - Arrive early for sofa, bed, or beanbag seating.
