Repurposed white rice sacks form the striking backdrop for Heritage, a new exhibition of 20 works from acclaimed Cambodian artist Sothy Chhim, exploring memory, identity and transformation against Cambodian cultural heritage. A graduate of the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh, Sothy has spent decades developing a practice rooted in Khmer tradition while embracing contemporary visual expression. For this body of work, he incorporates painting alongside layered materials, including rice sacks from Côte d'Ivoire that have travelled across borders and histories before arriving in Cambodia - visible stitching and textured surfaces exploring themes of continuity, repair and connection. "Heritage is not something that belongs only to the past," Sothy says. "It continues to live when we allow it to change and speak in a new language." Familiar Khmer references sit alongside diverse textures and forms throughout, creating a quiet dialogue between local and global histories, and inviting viewers to consider their own relationship with what they preserve, what they change, and what they carry forward. On view at the Rosewood Phnom Penh Art Gallery, Level 35, through November 30, 2026. Admission is complimentary.
