Loving Vincent: The world's first fully painted animation film

Tasked with delivering a posthumous letter to Vincent van Gogh's brother, postman's son Armand instead finds himself investigating the mystery behind the artist's suicide - the premise driving Loving Vincent (2017, 94 min), the world's first fully painted animated feature. Every one of its 65,000 frames is an oil painting on canvas, created by a global team of 125 artists using Van Gogh's own techniques, a vision realized by painter-turned-director Dorota Kobiela after years spent studying his letters and methods, starting from a seven-minute short back in 2008.
