About this event

Nerd Night goes full Halloween Special, with speakers tackling their spookiest nerdy obsessions in strict Pecha Kucha format - 20 slides, 20 seconds each, 6 minutes 40 seconds total. Come in costume for a shot at the costume contest. On the lineup: Mark Peterson breaks down what makes a costume funny versus offensive; Benny Joe Augello revisits the Canadian kids’ show Are You Afraid of the Dark? to ask what horror is appropriate for children; Emily makes the case that menstruation is sucky, not scary; Cat Isaacs unpacks the actual nature of fear and the myth that’s kept us stuck for centuries; Sonic Duran explores pareidolia in space, from witches and horseheads to ghosts hiding in astrophotography; and Louis Gagnon recaps Quebec’s separatist history ahead of a possible third independence referendum.
