About this event

More than 2,000 women have been smuggled into and traded within Al-Hol, a refugee and internment camp in Syria run by US-backed forces, after being enslaved by Daesh (ISIS). Sabaya (2021, 90 min), Hogir Hirori's gripping, harrowing documentary, follows a small band of volunteers risking everything to rescue them. Tense but never sensationalist, the Kurdish-Swedish filmmaker puts his own life on the line to present a scary, sobering look at human suffering and the efforts of those dedicated to ending it. Special screening in the framework of Meta House's "Speak Out Sisters Project," empowering victims of sexual and gender-based violence in Cambodia. English subtitles. Free entrance.
