Filmed across 25 countries over nearly five years, Samsara (2011, 102 min) takes its name from the Sanskrit word for "the ever-turning wheel of life" - the guiding idea behind director Ron Fricke and producer Mark Magidson's search for the threads that connect us all. The pair previously teamed up on the acclaimed Baraka and Chronos, both known for blending visual and musical artistry, and Samsara continues that tradition, moving through sacred sites, disaster zones, industrial landscapes and natural wonders. With no dialogue or text to guide interpretation, the film breaks from documentary convention, leaving viewers to find their own meaning in imagery and music that fuses the ancient with the modern.
