Skins & Memories
About this event
For Kris Marko, memory isn't an archive of the past but a living material, continually rewritten by time and continually reshaping the skin through which we encounter the present. His exhibition, Skins & Memories, explores what disappears, what we preserve, what we unconsciously transform, and what unexpectedly returns, presented throughout the gallery spaces surrounding Plantation's iconic fish pond, where his layered work sits naturally against the resort's architecture, gardens and tranquil atmosphere. A French-Serbian artist based in Phnom Penh, Marko treats his canvases as living surfaces, written, erased and rewritten over time, moving fluidly between painting, collage and sculptural intervention. As he puts it: "We spend our lives being covered by layers of expectations, rules and borrowed identities. In my work, I try to peel them back. Creation begins when something escapes the plan - when the accident reveals what we did not know was there."
