Los Angeles-based band Dengue Fever travels to the country that inspired their love for '60s and '70s Cambodian rock in Sleepwalking Through the Mekong (2007, 68 min), John Pirozzi's documentary tracing their journey. For singer Chhom Nimol, it's a homecoming; for the rest of the band, it's a transformation, as they perform with master musicians and record new songs along the way. More than a rockumentary, the film paints a portrait of modern Cambodia through the band's tour of Phnom Penh and beyond, crossing cultural distance with the same spirit as the country's original rock pioneers.
