About this event

A boy raised from childhood by an old monk on a small floating monastery moves through temptation, transgression, exile and eventual return in Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring, Kim Ki-duk's nearly wordless fable structured around the changing seasons, tracing one life's full arc of innocence, desire, guilt and redemption. Shot on a real floating set built specifically for the film, it became the highest-grossing Korean film in the US for over a decade, introducing many Western audiences to Korean cinema for the first time - its serene, painterly visual style, built almost entirely around natural light and sound, has since made it a touchstone of contemplative world cinema. Roger Ebert called it Buddhist, but also universal, while Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian described it as transmitting a Buddhist conviction that time, age and youth are illusions.
