About this event

We Want the Funk! (2025, 84 min) traces funk’s roots through African, soul and early jazz influences, following its rise into the mainstream through James Brown’s raw dynamism, the extraterrestrial sound of George Clinton’s Parliament-Funkadelic, Labelle’s reinvention of the girl-group sound, and Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat. The story stretches further still, tracking funk’s fingerprints on both new wave and hip-hop. English language | Free entrance
